The Week in Review 12/2/12

Sunday capped off another exciting week in Central Pa for railfans. Keeping a Holiday tradition, the CP Christmas train paid a visit to Scranton PA. Plenty of run through units plied the rails, CP, CN, CSX, UP, and even an original SP unit! Two unusual sightings in the Harrisburg area were; 11 brand new VLI export locomotives and a colorful Rail America GP-38. The NS Track Geometry Train and the Veterans Unit NS 6920 added to the variety. Topping off the mix were three NS Heritage Units; the Virginian made its debut, while the Lackawanna and Central of New Jersey units continue to make multiple trips passing through on coal trains. "Lady Liberty" is pictured here skimming across Rockville Bridge. The NS Heritage Units continue to generate excitement in the railfan community, and The Bridgeview Bed & Breakfast is a great location to view the action!! You just never know what you might see next!! Give us a call at 717-957-2438. For more exciting pictures from the past week see our 12/2/12 Week in review facebook photo album!!

The Great Locomotive Chase of 2012!!

0430 Wednesday 11/21/12. The mission: to track and shoot an elusive target. Our target: the Union Pacific 1996 Southern Pacific Heritage Unit. Pilot: Brian Plant; Navigator: Bruce Kerr; Bombardier: Evan Traneboy Kerr: Me, I'm just along for the ride. 0500: We meet in a deserted parking lot at Rutherford PA, our target has already passed through. We decide to intercept at Bethlehem PA as the sun is rising. A location is chosen and we wait. Success!! But we're not finished, another rendezvous is planned for Manville NJ. Again Success!! On the return trip we encounter many secondary targets in photogenic spots along the Norfolk Southern Reading & Lehigh Lines. Our mission is a complete success!!
