Happy Birthday Rockville Bridge ~ Completed March 30th 1902

This year, the Rockville Bridge is 121 years old. Constructed by the Pennsylvania Railroad between 1900-1902, it is the longest stone arch railroad bridge in the world with forty-eight 70 foot spans, for a total length of 3,820 feet. The bridge crosses the Susquehanna River north of Harrisburg, PA and is still in use today by Norfolk Southern as a vital part of the east-west main line. Rockville Bridge has witnessed the passing of time from steam locomotives to modern diesels, floods, ice, and snow. Having withstood the test of time, this true American icon is tribute to quality engineering and durable construction.
